Third-person action/guided meditation RPG
Waking is a third-person role-playing game that immerses players within their own minds. Billed by its developers as a type of guided meditation platform, Waking can be compared to similar bundles like Guided Meditation VR in terms of how users are encouraged to let their thoughts roam free. This is a single-player game.
Waking follows the storyline of a character who has fallen into a deep coma. Straddling the tenuous boundaries between life and death, he or she must recall various memories in order to eventually find their way back "into the light."
A truly personalized gaming experience
Unlike common RPGs, Waking bases much of its plot around the past history of the player. Users will need to provide basic details of their lives, such as their favorite pet, where they grew up, and their deepest personal desires. The storyline will be molded around such metrics, resulting in a one-of-a-kind experience.
Memories as weapons
It can be argued that the most intriguing aspect of Waking involves how one's memories can be used to combat enemies that are encountered from time to time. For instance, it is possible to recruit past friends based on their real-life traits. This results in a certain degree of non-linear gameplay.
A synergy of immersive visual effects and intense action
This indie game has employed imaginative background environments alongside a soothing soundtrack and voiceovers that are certain to be popular with ASMR fans. However, Waking also contains elements and scenes that mirror a first-person shooter. It truly offers the best of both worlds.
A thought-provoking platform
In terms of sheer role-playing, Waking is on par with other third-person soul-like games, such as Thymesia. However, the amount of personalization that players can enjoy provides levels of self-reflection that are rarely seen within the RPG genre.
